Youth Orchestra
Forte! String Youth Orchestra is owned and operated as a separate entity of the Ji-Eun Lee Music Academy (JLMA). Forte! is an opportunity for young musicians to grow in an ensemble environment. Under the director, students will participate in a series of rehearsals culminating in a performance. Repertoire may include, but is not limited to, Cello Concerto in C major by Joseph Haydn, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik by W. A. Mozart, Minuets and more.
Students should arrive with a beginning knowledge of their instrument and musical theory. Emphasis will be on ear training, following the director, performance and stage presence, listening to the other parts, and professional ensemble performance. All music will be provided to students on a loan basis by Forte! for the duration of the 10 week program. Students are responsible to return music to Forte! following the performance to avoid assessment of any music fees.
Forte! String Youth Orchestra will be conducted by Yoonhae K. Swanson, Director of Forte String Academy (located inside Ji-Eun Lee Music Academy). Mrs. Swanson holds a Master of Music degree in Cello Performance from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She has been teaching and performing in Indianapolis for over fifteen years. JLMA and Forte! both encourage students to participate in competitions, solo and ensemble performances.
Rehearsals and Performance
Forte! String Youth Orchestra provides ten-90 minute Saturday rehearsals to prepare for the performance. Performance is the same day as the final rehearsal. As part of professional and ensemble training, Forte! String Youth Orchestra encourages students to attend all rehearsals. Requests for absences may be presented to the director for final approval. Students may not miss more than 2 total rehearsals and may not miss 2 rehearsals in a row to be ready to perform for the concert. There will be no makeup sessions for missed rehearsals and no enrollment fees will be refunded for missed rehearsals or performances. Rehearsals will be held at Concert Hall, Ji-Eun Lee Music Academy on Saturdays, 2:00 PM—3:30 PM.
